If you’ve opened one of our recent releases and noticed the wine looks a bit cloudy, don’t worry—your bottle isn’t flawed! What you’re seeing is the result of a very deliberate winemaking decision that we’re passionate about sharing with you.

The Art of Selective Filtering

Not all wines are created equal, and neither should their treatment be. We take a thoughtful approach to filtering that varies depending on several factors including: the vintage, the vineyard site, the varietal, wine style, the size of the particular batch, and our vision for each bottle.

Our aromatic white wines undergo cross-flow filtration, a process that removes proteins and solids to create visibly clear wines. This clarification enhances the aromatics that make these wines so expressive and appealing. However, this clarity comes with a trade-off—while we gain aromatic intensity, some of the wine’s natural texture and weight can be lost. – Richard Charnock, Winemaker

The Beauty of Unfined and Unfiltered Reds

For select red wines, we’ve made the conscious choice to skip both fining and filtration entirely. This decision might result in wines that appear cloudy, but the benefits far outweigh any cosmetic concerns.

When we leave wines unfined and unfiltered, we preserve everything that makes them special:

  • Enhanced aging potential – These wines develop more complexity over time
  • Greater texture and mouthfeel – You’ll experience more body and richness
  • Preserved tannin structure – The natural framework that gives red wines their backbone
  • Increased weight and presence – Every sip delivers more substance

Yes, these wines may take a bit longer to open up and show their true character, but we believe patience is rewarded with exceptional depth and complexity that would otherwise be lost to filtration.

Character Over Clarity

At the heart of our philosophy is a simple belief: we’d rather offer you a cloudy wine that’s bursting with character than a crystal-clear wine that’s been stripped of its natural complexity. Our wines are stable and safe to drink—that slight haze you see is simply the wine in its most natural, unmanipulated form. – Karl Duda, Winemaker

Our Current Unfined and Unfiltered Selection
