Heidi Noble is the owner and executive winemaker of JoieFarm Winery. She is a self-taught winemaker with formal culinary education and professional wine training. She is a proud graduate of the Stratford Chef’s School, and throughout the 90’s worked in some of Canada’s top kitchens in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. After writing her sommelier papers in 2000 she then went on to work in the wine trade on the import side with a niche European portfolio.
In 2003 Heidi started JoieFarm, with Michael Dinn, as a humble on-farm cooking school and gastronomic guesthouse. The first JoieFarm vintage was 2004, only 800 cases were produced, and the three wines made for that very first vintage still make up JoieFarm’s core production today: A Noble Blend, Rosé and Unoaked Chardonnay. Heidi has a particular interest in making wines that are expressive of cool-climate, lake-moderated desert terroir and has a fairly non-interventionist approach to winemaking. Heidi’s wines are known for their freshness, consistency, natural balance and complexity. Starting with the vineyard, Heidi has an interest in making wine naturally as possible, while using the wisdom of her past vintages of winemaking to ensure JoieFarm’s wines are consistently pleasing.
She is particularly interested in expressing the German history of aromatic grapes in BC and is pretty much obsessed with Burgundian traditions, and as such has chosen to make small-lot Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay the showcases of her winemaking production.
Restless and energetic by nature, between press loads, running the business of JoieFarm, mentoring her team, raising her son Theodore and generally embracing her own unstoppable joie de vie she is producing a new and exciting side label Chic Fille and is writing another book. Be sure to stay tuned!
Adam Splychaski and his unstoppable team at Meritage Viticulture are an integral part of our wine production. Adam and Heidi manage the vineyards in tandem and Adam goes on to oversee that his team carefully executes and maintains the JoieFarm vineyard leases and contracts. The Meritage crew have been partners of the JoieFarm family since 2007.
Alyssa Hubert, JoieFarm’s Apprentice Winemaker, has been working with wine in various roles since 2009. She has twelve years of experience in the service industry and has an academic research background in organic agriculture. Alyssa’s wine knowledge has been gained primarily on the job, both on the restaurant floor and in the field, and since 2015 she has worked in various cellars throughout the province.
Amy Campbell brings a background in business and a love for wine to our team at JoieFarm and has been working with us since 2015.Amy has worked in our tasting room in past seasons and currently has the all-important job of managing our order desk and organizing all shipments with our delivery partners: Direct Tap, PacRim and ATS. Her diligent work ensures that our licensee and private orders are delivered correctly and on-time. Amy is also happy to suggest new products and assist with wine list changes.
BJ Tumanut has an entrepreneurial background has been active in the food and wine industry since 1999. BJ has found a home at JoieFarm as the liaison to our restaurant and private wine shop partners; providing support to our sales team by arranging bookings and executing follow-up to our annual vintage releases. In addition to providing on-going licensee support, BJ also enthusiastically manages all of our sales and marketing initiatives.
Jennifer Carter is a restaurant industry veteran. She has worked in all aspects of hospitality including restaurant and retail management, executing wine programs and bartending. Jen is now deeply engaged in many aspects of JoieFarm from viticulture to winemaking to the sales of our wine. Specifically, Jen helps maintain our vineyards, is one of our vintage cellar hands and is a member of our sales team for licensees in Vancouver and Lower Mainland.
JJ Skidmore, Regional Sales Manager to Vancouver Island, brings a lifetime of dedication to the restaurant business. With 27 years of experience as a restaurant manager and bartender, JJ was instrumental in the set-up of our new JoieFarm tasting room. JJ is currently a part of our harvest team and is a key member of the JoieFarm sales force. JJ brings great love for the JoieFarm brand to Vancouver Island and his home in Victoria where he represents JoieFarm wines with enthusiasm and knowledge.
Dave brings a unique skill set to the JoieFarm team. He has nearly a decade’s worth of restaurant hospitality experience and an academic and practical background in sustainable agriculture. Dave fell for wine in 2014 and since then has worked in several cellars both here in the Okanagan and farther afield. He welds too. Here on the farm Dave helps maintain our vineyard, is a part of our cellar team, and will be leading our tasting room for our 2018 season.
Karl Duda, our Cellar Master, joined the production team for 2014 crush, but is no stranger to wineries. Karl grew up on a vineyard outside of Okanagan Falls and after spending 15 years as a bike mechanic has come back to his roots. Karl lends his steadiness, hard work and dedication to our winemaking team and keeps the winery well-organized and running efficiently throughout the year.
Rebecca Whatley brings ten plus years of experience from the restaurant industry and an education in business administration to our JoieFarm team. As our Operations Manager, Rebecca has the important job of managing our inventory, sales data and logistics and licensee allocations to ensure our restaurant and retail partners are with wines throughout the year. Additionally, she takes care of our BC Liquor Board and Alberta agency sales.
Sogol Jalali joined the JoieFarm team in the summer of 2015. She takes care of the accounting department, and is an integral part of our JoieFarm administration team. Sogol started her career in the hospitality industry in Vancouver where she also pursued her WSET and Sommelier certificates. Sogol has spent the last 15-years educating herself and gaining experience in every component of the hospitality and wine industry.
